Cartoonist Richard Thompson has passed away

I've been informed by Richard's best friend Nick Galifianakis that Richard passed away today due to the effects of Parkinson's Disease. We're poorer for his loss, but richer for his life and art.

  1. A terrible, terrible tragic loss. What a cartoonist. What a gentleman. This will resonate with me forever. Deepest condolences to his wife and children. I am so sad.

  2. I am devastated, partially for selfish reasons since my husband also has young-onset PD. But having met Richard and enjoyed his work, the world has lost a good and talented man. Condolences to his family and friends. And donate to fight this damned disease!

  3. Truly a very sad day. He will be missed so much. Tonight I plan on reading up on his work and art and taking advantage of the joy we got from him.

  4. Oh, so so sad. Richard's wit, artistry, and stunning insights on life expressed through his work have added so much joy to our lives. We turn again and again ... and again to the Almanac and Cul de Sac books. Will never forget him drawing Dill for one of our kids at a book release event before his Parkinson's diagnosis was announced. He was a delight to meet in person. Just an incredible person all around! Our sincerest sympathies to his family and close friends.
